wax melting in an electric candle warmer

What Is An Electric Candle Warmer?

An electric candle warmer is a device designed to safely heat, and melt scented wax melts without the need for an open flame. It typically consists of a base unit with a heat source, and a dish or plate on top where the wax melts, wax cubes or crumbles are placed. Plug the heating element into an outlet and it gently warms the wax cubes, releasing fragrance into the air without the risk of fire or the need to constantly monitor a flame.

Electric candle warmers often have adjustable temperature settings, and may include additional features such as timers or automatic shut-off functions. They provide a convenient, and efficient way to enjoy the ambiance, and aroma of candles while eliminating the worry associated with traditional burning methods.

Frequently asked questions

In most situations, any type of wax meant to burn in a candle is ideal be used in electric candle warmers, often called wax melt warmers.

That being said, I typically formulate my wax melts and wax crumbles slightly different than the candles I make to burn.

My wax of choice is coconut wax. It is very soft, and can feel very greasy to the touch in it’s purest form. So, when I make wax melts or crumbles I use a coconut wax blend that has an additive wax to make the wax melt feel a little less greasy, and the crumbles easier to “crumble”.

Even so, I always suggest to candle burners that if there is any wax left in a candle jar after the wick has expired, to scrape it out and put it in a electric candle warmer.

Yes! 100%. Electric Candle Warmers work great and are sometimes preferable over traditional candles. The timer on some candle warmers allows for fearless scenting, and max melts or crumbles last longer than candles.

Typically one 2.5 oz wax melt or crumble lasts over 40 hours. One key factor to pay attention to is that you want a bulb on the wax warmer that is at least 40w. Anything less doesn’t get hot enough to melt and release the scent in the wax.

4 – 8 hours is a good rule of thumb to leave on wax warmers as long as you are home.

Just like a traditional candle with a flame, it’s best practice to not leave an electric candle warmer on when no one is home. Although much safer than leaving an unattended open flame, there is still a small risk should your scented wax warmer malfunction.

Some electric candle warmers have timers on them. This feature should not be counted on as a way for someone to leave the house with the electric candle warmer on, but should be used as more of a safety measure should someone forget to turn the wax warmer off.
